Getting here & getting out
We are three miles east of Derby Center, a quarter mile off Highway 5A and Route 105, and ten miles from the Canadian border. Once you have found us, the rest of the Northeast Kingdom is the easy part.
From the interstate
Take Exit 28, head east on Route 105 for five miles, then watch for our signs.
Char-Bo Campground sits on Hayward Road between Derby Center and West Charleston, a quarter mile off Highway 5A and Route 105. Use the map to work out the route from your own front door.
Area attractions
Fish our streams and lakes and explore the country roads on both sides of the border. Within minutes of the campground you will find antique shops, auctions and flea markets, an 18-hole golf course, Lake Salem and Seymour Lake, along with a friendly town library and churches nearby.
The great outdoors
A 27-mile freshwater glacial lake straddling the border, the third deepest in Vermont, with 20 islands, mountain vistas and open water for family recreation. Local legend puts Memphré, a Loch Ness sort of creature, somewhere out in it; sightings go back to the 18th century.

At Rider Hill in Derby since 1973, the only motocross racing association in Vermont, drawing riders from across New England and Quebec, with classes from Novice to Expert. Five minutes from the campground.

A year-round indoor water park with wading pools, kids’ play areas, hot tubs and cabanas for the softer set, plus the Double Barrel, La Chute, Big Falls and Big River for everybody else.

Kayak and canoe rentals, livery service, and river trips from a leisurely half day to a rigorous full day, and two-day trips too, for the more adventurous. Five miles from the campground, which makes a good base camp.

Special events
A celebration of summer on the shores of Lake Memphremagog in the first week of July: the Harry Corrow Freedom Run, Tubing Tuesday, the Derby Parade on the Fourth, and Newport’s celebration with bands, BBQ and fireworks.

Cultural
Built across the US–Canada border and opened in 1904 by a couple who came from opposite sides of it. A black line runs through this world-famous landmark, letting you know when you have passed from one country into the other.

Founded in 1963 on New York’s Lower East Side and moved to a farm in Glover in 1974, where a 140-year-old hay barn became a museum for veteran puppets. One of the oldest non-profit, self-supporting theatre companies in the country.
